Meals-on-Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head, Inc., is committed to actively working to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus while also continuing to serve those in need in our community. Below please find important information on what we are doing to keep our clients, volunteers, staff, and suppliers safe.

Food Distribution

• Effective immediately, and continuing until further notice, all Meals-on-Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head volunteers will be taking the following steps when delivering meals to those we serve:
• All volunteer drivers are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of meals, including sanitizing our office space and making sure all drivers are feeling healthy and have properly washed their hands.
• To protect our clients, we are temporarily changing our delivery methods. For now, we are packing up complete meals (entree, dessert, beverage, etc.) in paper bags that we will provide and writing the name of the client on the bag. In this way, it will not be necessary to touch the food packaging en route to our clients.
• When we arrive at a client's home, we will hang the bag on a door handle or place the bag on the ground in front of the door. We will then ring the bell or knock on the door and step away by at least six feet.
• We will wait until the client retrieves the food or acknowledges our presence. When speaking with our clients, we will follow CDC guidelines and maintain a six-foot distance. To maintain the safety of the food we are delivering, we will not leave the meal if the client does not answer the door.
• To provide for everyone’s safety, under no circumstance can we enter a client's home, even if invited.
